Monadnock Speedway Readies For July 4th Tradition:
Canaan, NH: ( July 29, 2009)
-- Every July 4th weekend brings a special event to the
Monadnock Speedway, and the tradition continues this
Saturday night when the True Value Modified Series returns
for an event that is sure to thrill a capacity crowd, as
it has done since the inception of the TVMRS.
The “Firecracker 100” has been won by Kirk Alexander four
of the past five seasons. The West Swanzey, New Hampshire
driver is sure to be a favorite to win the event for a
fifth time, and to redeem himself after crashing out of
the TVMRS season opener at the quarter-mile while leading
the race.
This race takes on added significance for Alexander, as it
is the last time he will have the opportunity to win a
TVMRS event at Monadnock this season, with the series only
making two stops at his home track in 2008.
The toughest competition Alexander will face on Saturday
could come from Jon McKennedy, of Chelmsford (MA). He has
won the last two TVMRS races this season to move into the
point lead after five events, and a consistent improvement
at Monadnock from the 21-year-old driver is evident by his
most recent top five finishes there.
As the previous race winner, McKennedy can start no higher
than eighteenth, so he knows that it will not be an easy
task to earn a first-ever victory at Monadnock.
McKennedy reasoned, “The last two times we’ve run there we
had to come from the back and we finished in the top five.
I think my chances this weekend are really good, but we’ve
got to stay out of trouble. “It would mean a lot to run
well in front of all those people. The place definitely
packs them in for that race. I think it will be a good
race. We’ll be starting in the back again, but it’s 100
laps, so we have plenty of time to do it. I’m really
looking forward to it.”
Dwight Jarvis of Ascutney (VT), who finished second to
Alexander in the 2008 “Firecracker 100”, has also finished
second in each of the previous two 2009 TVMRS races at the
Twin-State and Seekonk Speedways respectively. Jarvis has
finished second more times than any other driver in series
history, but he has high hopes of earning his first
victory of the 2009 season at Monadnock.
Another contender to include is the winner of the first
2009 Monadnock event in April, Rob Goodenough of nearby
Swanzey (NH). Chris Pasteryak, Ed Dachenhausen, Les
Hinckley, Rowan Pennink, Sean Bodreau and Peter Jarvis
will be among those looking for their first victory of
2009 with high hopes.
The 24-car starting field will be decided through three
heat races and a B-Main, which are always eventful at the
speedway, which hosted the first-ever TVMRS race back in
2004.
The race program will also include a full NASCAR Whelen
All-American Series event, featuring the Outlaw Pros,
Super Stocks, Mini-Stocks, Enduro’s and a large Fireworks
Display as well.
Racing starts promptly at 6:00pm. For more information on
this event, including the availability of discount tickets

Twin State True Value Modified Win To Jon McKennedy:
Claremont, NH (June 6, 2009) -- Chelmsford, MA., racer
Jon McKennedy became the fourth different winner in four
races Friday night June 5, winning the True Value
Modified Racing Series sanctioned “Granite State
Harley-Davidson 100” at Twin State Speedway, Claremont,
NH. It was McKennedy’s first win this season and his
third career TVMRS victory. McKennedy has closed to
within eight points of point leader Steven Masse.
The 100 lap race, highly competitive from the start,
featured nine lead changes among five different drivers.
Rowan Pennink, Huntingdon Valley,PA.,from his pole
starting position, took the lead at the drop of the
green flag and held it until lap 19 when three-time
series champion Kirk Alexander,Swanzey, NH., snuck by.

defending champion Chris Pasteryak, Lisbon, CT.,
regained it again on lap 27, before turning it over to
Alexander on lap 29, at which point the series all time
winning driver took control until the mid-way mark.

field, worked his way to the front to contest for the
lead. Jarvis and Alexander tossed the lead back and
forth between laps 51 and 70.
McKennedy, who started third in the lineup, faded to
fifth in the early going and then methodically made his
way to the front by mid-race. The part time ISMA
supermodified driver moved to fourth on lap 46, third on
lap 53, and then the lead as he passed both Jarvis and
Alexander on lap 71. Jarvis took the lead back for one
circuit on lap 87 only to turn it over to the race
winner a lap later.
Jarvis finished a strong second, Alexander third, Eddie
Dachenhausen, Danbury, CT., fourth, and Steve Masse,
Bellingham, MA fifth. Pasteryak, Les Hinckley, Windsor
Locks, CT., Rob Goodenough, Swanzey, NH., Sean Bodreau,

Masse Scores First Win In Crash Filled Thunder Road
Race:
(Barre, VT (May 25, 2009) – What a difference a year
makes. Last May, the historic Thunder Road International
Speedbowl, Barre, VT., was tough to conquer for Steven
Masse. Sunday afternoon, mission accomplished.
The 19 year old racer from Bellingham, MA., in only his
second year of competition with the True Value Modified
Racing Series, passed race leader Chris Pasteryak on lap
87, and went on to win the 100 lap Memorial Day Classic
at the famed Vermont speedway before a huge holiday
weekend crowd. Not only was it Masse’s first win, the
victory moved him into first place in the point
standings.
In a pre-race meeting Thunder Road operator Tom Curley
told series drivers, “You have to respect this place,
keep that in mind, this race track will bite you if you
don’t.” Several drivers competing at the famed race
track for the first time, would later agree. The race,
plagued by 12 caution periods and one red flag to clear
the track from damaged cars, slowed the pace of the
feature race, the third event of a 15 race schedule.
Nine of those caution periods came between laps 70 and
80.
Pasteryak jumped into the lead at the drop of the green
flag from his outside front row starting position and
opened up a sizeable lead until he was reeled in by the
field. Pasteryak fended off several attempts for the
lead from several competitors.
Pole sitter Peter Jarvis chased the race leader early on
with Les Hinckley moving into the runner-up spot on lap
6 and giving chase until lap 51. A fast closing Jonathan
McKennedy moved into second on lap 52 and quickly reeled
in Pasteryak to contest for the lead.
McKennedy appeared to be the class of the field with
Masse staying close as they worked their way to the
front. Suddenly on lap 73, McKennedy pulled out of the
race with engine problems. With Rowan Pennink now a
factor, Masse blew by Pennink on lap 86 and then
Pasteryak on lap 87 to take over the top spot.
Masse then opened a sizeable lead over the field driving
the LG Products –Northeast Race Cars sponsored # 13
Monte Carlo to victory.
Pennink, who started sixth in the field, finished
second, Kirk Alexander, last years winner finished
third, followed by Eddie Dachenhausen, and Jack Bateman.
Mike Holdridge, Les Hinckley, Peter Jarvis, Pasteryak,
and Rob Goodenough rounded out the top ten.
Qualifying races were won by Jarvis, Pasteryak and
McKennedy. 25 race teams journeyed to Thunder Road with
all 25 cars starting the event. 14 cars finished the
race. Pasteryak had the fastest race lap of 12.236.
The next event for the TVMRS will be the Granite State
Harley-Davidson 100, Friday night, June 5, at Twin State
Speedway, Claremont, NH. At 7 PM

Janovic, Coby, Ready for
True Value Modified Series Debut:
Waterford, CT. – (May 3, 2009 ) -- When the True Value
Modified Racing Series competes at the historic
Waterford, CT; Speedbowl this Saturday night, May 9,
several popular Connecticut competitors that know the
Waterford race track well will try to become a first
time winner with the New England based touring division.
Last season saw Buxton, ME; veteran David Pinkham win
the event. He had never seen the Waterford facility
prior to his first run there.
Two drivers will be making their first ever starts with
the New England based series. Both would like to do well
in front of the home town crowd.
Doug Coby, Milford, CT; says he’s ready to compete in
his new ride, the Czarnecki Brothers entry, formerly
driven by Ted Christopher. “Hopefully it’s the first of
many,” said Coby, talking about races on the True Value
schedule. “Really looking forward to it.”
As for Rob Janovic, the 2007 Waterford SK modified
champion, he too is anxious to get going, as he’s been
busily preparing his racer doing all the things needed
to be ready for the opener. Janovic indicated during the
winter that he plans to run as many TVMRS dates as
possible this season with bigger plans being considered
for 2010.
Jeff Pearl, 1998 SK modified champion at Waterford, is
also entered in this Saturday’s event. Pearl, no
stranger to victory lane with 30 wins in Speedbowl
modified action, ran strong with the TVMRS last August.
Windsor Locks, CT; veteran Les Hinckley, victorious at
Waterford last season, is a strong candidate for
victory. Hinckley always runs well at Waterford. Ed
Dachenhausen, Danbury, CT; another driver with Waterford
experience, is a strong favorite as is defending series
champion, Chris Pasteryak. Pasteryak was a winner last
season at Waterford, a track where he started his
career.
Series regular Mike Holdridge, Madison, CT; also
launched his career at the historic oval. He’ll be
piloting his brand new Troyer mount.
In six races at “The Bowl,” six different drivers have
visited victory lane
Bobby Grigas in 2006, Rob Summers and Kirk Alexander in
2007, David Pinkham, Les Hinckley, and Chris Pasteryak,
in 2008. Grigas, Summers, and Pasteryak were first time
TVMRS winners.
Saturday’s race is the second event of the season for
the TVMRS. They opened their campaign last weekend at
Monadnock Speedway, Winchester, NH with Rob Goodenough
nabbing his second series win. The True Value tour will
return to Waterford in August with the ISMA
supermodifieds and NEMA midgets. Race time May 9 is 5
PM. |

front of a large crowd Saturday night at Monadnock
Speedway, Winchester, NH; and when the dust settled
after nine caution periods, Rob Goodenough, Swanzey, NH;
notched his second career win capturing the “Bond Auto
Parts 100 Spring Dash” for open-wheel modified race
cars.
Goodenough started fifth in a 24 car field and was in
the hunt for the lead throughout the race. Cross town
rival Kirk Alexander took the top spot at the drop of
the green flag and fought off all that was thrown at him
from Peter Jarvis, Ascutney,VT; Ed Dachenhausen,Danbury
CT; and Goodenough.
Through eight caution periods, Alexander set a torrid
pace until lap 89 when while trying to pass a slower
car, the three-time champion made contact with a safety
barrier knocking himself out of the race and wiping out
a chance at an unprecedented15th career win at his
“home” track..
When the race resumed, Goodenough paced the field to the
finish with 2006 series champion Dwight Jarvis chasing
him to the checkered flag finishing a half car length
behind the winner.
Goodenough upon arrival Saturday morning stated “I guess
we are really home, I got my color back (blue) and my
number” (1NH). In victory lane the veteran racers said,
“This is really like our first win,” referring to a rain
shortened victory at Monadnock in 2007.
Jon McKennedy, Chelmsford, MA; Dachenhausen, Sean
Bodreau, Claremont, NH; Rowan Pennink, Huntington
Valley, PA; Mike Douglas, Auburn,NH; Joe
Doucette,Framingham,MA; Jack Bateman, Canaan NH; and
Bill Park, Long Island, NY rounded out the top ten.
Qualifying heat races were won by P.Jarvis, Alexander,
and Dachenhausen, with Pennink winning the 15 lap
consolation race.
The next stop for the True Value Modified Racing Series
is May 9, at the Waterford CT, Speedbowl.
